The YWCA Central Alabama recently held its 25th Annual Mother’s Day Flower Sale on Friday, May 7th. Each year, the YWCA’s Junior Board holds the Flower Sale to benefit KIDS (Kids in Distress) Korner, the YW’s child care for homeless children. This year, Flower Sale raised critical funds for KIDS Korner!
The Mother’s Day Flower Sale begins more than two months before the public sale with pre-sales made by representatives at Birmingham area companies. The company representatives play a critical role in the success of Flower Sale with over $41,700 coming from pre-sales. The public Flower Sale was held Friday before Mother’s Day with sales at two tent locations in Birmingham: the Harbert Plaza in downtown Birmingham and the Ray & Poynor building in Mountain Brook Village.
This year’s products included hydrangeas, begonias, gerbera daisies, calla lilies, mixed containers and rose and daisy bouquets that were arranged in vases. Shoppers also purchased Mother’s Day cards to be given with their flowers!
The YWCA KIDS Korner is the city’s only accredited child care facility for the area homeless. Since 1989, the program has provided quality care to over 1,600 infants, toddlers and preschoolers who live in area homeless shelters. The program is free to parents and helps them to find work, participate in job training programs or seek housing.
Thank you to the YW Junior Board and all other volunteers who helped make the 25th Annual Mother’s Day Flower Sale a huge success for the YWCA’s KIDS Korner.
