YWCA Central Alabama hosted its 12th Annual KIDS Korner Luncheon on Tuesday, February 12, 2019, at the BJCC East Ballroom. This event raised $152,600 (and counting) to support the YWCA’s KIDS Korner child development program for children of homeless families. The room was abuzz with over 650 guests in attendance, ready to help provide our YWCA angels with the best start at life.
“I am thrilled beyond words and I am so grateful to all of you for investing in the lives of our precious children,” Jamekia Bies said. “As happy as I am, there is still work to be done, so we can’t stop now. KIDS Korner is life-changing for the children we serve, but there are so many more who need our help. We always have a waiting list, we always have children we have to turn away, and that breaks my heart.”
The program featured a video highlighting the support and stability that the YW’s KIDS Korner program has provided a young mother and her two children, Violet and Collin. Ashley and her children were led to the YWCA as a result of domestic violence. When they arrived, they had nowhere to live, no transportation and her children needed childcare so that she could work and provide for her family.
