What We Do
My Sister’s Closet is a “resale boutique with a high-end feel” located at 2324 3rd Ave N, Birmingham, AL 35203.
The boutique provides new and gently used apparel, shoes and accessories at no cost to women and girls escaping domestic violence, living in shelter or facing extreme life transition.
These clients are treated with dignity in an atmosphere that is welcoming, supportive and designed to make them feel special. Area community and civic groups’ case managers are invited to refer a client for an appointment or to call (205) 703-5510 to learn more.
Nestled in the heart of downtown Birmingham just behind YWCA headquarters, My Sister’s Closet started in 1986 as a small venture to help domestic violence survivors find clothing for interviews, court appearances and work settings. YWCA’s resale boutique has grown into a go-to shopping destination for women of all backgrounds.
Fashionable, frugal shoppers enjoy a high-end shopping experience and unbelievable finds at extremely affordable prices Monday-Friday from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Racks feature designer items, direct-from-store merchandise, wardrobe necessities, and unique finds for as little as $5.
Proceeds benefit YWCA Central Alabama and its crucial programs and services in child development, domestic violence services and community housing.
My Sister’s Closet is known for its seasonal clearance sales and often partners with the local community to host PromPalooza (formal dress wear), pop-up shops and traveling professional development seminars complete with a discussion of work attire. If you wish to host one of these events for eligible women and girls, contact the store coordinator.
How to Donate
In-kind donations are accepted and receipts are available. Please visit AmazonSmile and select the YWCA Central Alabama wish list to find and donate items clients often request and have those delivered to YWCA Central Alabama, Attn: MSC Donation, 309 23rd Street N., Birmingham, AL 35203.
Due to capacity and COVID safety measures, MSC only accepts new and gently used, laundered, in-season items and asks donors to make an appointment to deliver donations. Drop off donations in easily identifiable containers, void of hangers, bags or shoe boxes. To schedule a drop-off, contact the store coordinator.
