Domestic Violence Summer Brunch Series: Strangulation

August 26, 2022

10:30-11:30 a.m.

YWCA Domestic Violence Services is thrilled to present the second session of our virtual Summer Brunch Series. This month YWCA Central Alabama’s SANE Coordinator Megan Oelschig will join us and discuss physical abuse specifically in the form of strangulation.

Domestic violence can include different forms of violence including verbal, financial and emotional manipulation. One of the most serious and deadly forms of abuse is physical, specifically strangulation, but many survivors are still hesitant to label strangulation or “choking” as abusive. The reality is strangulation is one of the most lethal forms of domestic violence and can cause unconsciousness within seconds and death within minutes. Megan and DeShunn will cover all the information you need to know about strangulation and provide you with information on how to seek help and resources.

Please join Megan Oelschig, who is responsible for conducting forensic exams in both sexual and domestic violence cases, and YWCA’s Domestic Violence Outreach & Prevention Specialist DeShunn Wilkerson on Friday, August 26 from 10:30-11:30. You can click the registration button below to sign up and receive a Zoom link or tune in Live the day of on our Facebook page.
