YWCA Central Alabama is observing Domestic Violence Awareness Month throughout October with a series of events, including this candlelight vigil. We will take this evening to remember those who have lost their lives to domestic violence and ignite the Central Alabama community to take action in ending the abuse together. Â
This year’s Domestic Violence Candlelight Vigil will be held at City Walk’s Labyrinth space off 18th Street from 6-7 p.m. A walk of solidarity will be held prior to the vigil for those who would like to join. Participants will meet at City Walk across from K&J’s Pastries and Eugene’s Hot Chicken on 9th Avenue and 22nd Street at 5:30 p.m. and walk to the space where the vigil will be held (on 18th Street).
Parking is available across from Eugene’s and behind Alabama School of Fine Arts. There is street parking around the venue as well.
This year’s Domestic Violence Awareness Month theme is Centering Survivors. We invite you to join us to hear from YW staff, a personal story from a domestic violence survivor, and reflections from local leaders on how they remain committed to ensuring the safety of victims and survivors of gender-based violence. Â
