Some call it a social media takeover, while others describe it as a digital megaphone to amplify the voices of women of color. White women of influence across the nation are giving Black women access to their social media platforms, or sharing the mic, for a day. 
Dr. Pam Benoit, Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs & Provost for the University of Alabama at Birmingham, will #SharetheMic with YWCA Central Alabama CEO Dr. LaRhonda Magras from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Sept. 18 on Instagram (@pam_benoit_uab).
Benoit will #DroptheMic on Sept. 19, encouraging her Instagram followers to take part in the YW’s 21-Day Racial Equity & Social Justice Challenge.
