YWCA Family Resource Center Hosts Paid Summer Internship for Teens
Birmingham, AL- YWCA Central Alabama is pleased to announce the start of the 2021 CREW (Creating Responsible Educated Working teens) workforce development program. The paid internship opportunity hosted through YWCA’s Family Resource Center (FRC) will be a professional and personal development platform for 25 Birmingham area students from June 7-July 2, 2021.
CREW summer interns will work with local businesses virtually or in-person in a unique hybrid model. They will receive daily training and support from seasoned leaders, an image consultant, and dedicated mentors sharing wisdom on topics like soft skills, social justice, financial literacy, entrepreneurship, personal branding, and more. Students will be compensated through YWCA FRC and will conclude their four-week employment and personal enhancement endeavor with a graduation celebration on July 8. CREW summer interns will also become inaugural members of the YWCA CREW Alumni Network and be poised to participate in monthly enrichment efforts involving mentors, college tours, and sustained support and training.
“CREW is truly a community effort combining the best of collaborative partnerships. That’s the beauty of it all. When you think about a program like CREW, now in its 10th year, having the ability to collaborate with partnering organizations to provide resources, allows us to not only change a young person’s life, but the lives of their families”, said FRC Coordinator and CREW leader Latasha J. Humphrey.
CREW 2021 summer interns represent students from Carver, Clay-Chalkville, Fultondale, Homeschool, Hoover, JCIB, Jackson-Olin, Minor, Ramsay, Shades Valley, Shelby County, Tarrant, Pleasant Grove, John Carroll Catholic, and Woodlawn High Schools.
