YWCA Holds Annual Mother’s Day Flower Sale

It’s a Mother’s Day tradition at the YWCA to honor mothers by raising funds and awareness for KIDS (Kids in Distress) Korner, the YWCA’s homeless child care center. The tradition continues with the 28th Annual Mother’s Day Flower Sale that will be held on Friday, May 10, 2013.
The public Flower Sale on Friday will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Regions Plaza (intersection of 5th Avenue North and 20th Street North) in downtown Birmingham and at the Ray & Poynor building (2629 Cahaba Road, Mountain Brook, AL 35223) in Mountain Brook Village. There will also be plants and flowers available at Children’s of Alabama from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and at Brookwood Medical Center from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Each year, the YWCA’s Junior Board holds the Flower Sale to benefit KIDS (Kids in Distress) Korner child care for children of homeless families. Alabama was recently ranked as the worst state for resources for children experiencing homelessness. KIDS Korner is a bright spot in this dismal statistic. KIDS Korner provides a safe, loving environment for homeless children to learn, play and re-discover joy. KIDS Korner ensures that these children receive unique care and individual attention during times of family crisis by providing a unique curriculum designed for the transitional nature of homelessness.
Since 1989, the program has provided quality care to over 2,000 infants, toddlers and preschoolers who live in area homeless shelters. KIDS Korner is free to parents and allows them to find work, participate in job training programs or seek housing, free from child care worries. Our program is licensed by the State of Alabama and nationally accredited by National Association for the Education of the Young Child (NAEYC). Less than 8% of child care centers in the nation are NAEYC accredited. The YWCA believes in giving those with the least in life the best start in life.
Without the support of corporate partners and Company Representatives we could not provide the essential services that we do for the community – services like supporting the special homeless children that the YWCA has the privilege of serving. Not only do Company Representatives raise essential funds for KIDS Korner, they also raise awareness about the issues that homeless children in this city face. Over 90 Company Representatives play a critical role in the success of Flower Sale with pre-sales.
YWCA Junior Board members will be on hand to help shoppers select the perfect flowers for their mothers and other special women, teachers or friends.
This year’s outstanding products include hydrangeas, begonias, calla lilies, ivy and rose and daisy bouquets. Customers wishing to purchase flowers can view them prior to the sale at https://www.ywcabham.org/products. The selection includes a greeting card as well as potted flowers and cut flowers ranging in price from $7 to $35.
Thank you to the YW Junior Board members, Company Representatives and community volunteers for all of their hard work and dedication to the women, children and families that we serve. To learn more about the YWCA programs or if you are interested in donating please click here.
