When 18-year-old Briana Caldwell arrived at Pell City’s St. Simon Peter Episcopal Church to search for the perfect prom dress, she had only one requirement in mind. “Nothing else mattered,” the Talladega County Central High School senior said. “The dress just had to be purple.”
The perfect prom dress can be costly, so finding out about YWCA Central Alabama’s dress giveaway this year was such a relief. Each year at Prom Palooza, the YW provides free dresses, shoes and accessories to those in need. The YW offers the event in both Pell City and Birmingham for students who are referred by their guidance counselors.
