Why Give?
Why give to YWCA Central Alabama? YWCA Central Alabama partners with the people we serve to break generational cycles of poverty, systemic racism and violence. We embrace service participants with reassuring programs that support their journey forward. We advocate for them holistically. We empower them to navigate systems in their lives.
Each year, thousands call our 24-hour crisis line and participate in our educational and awareness trainings. For thousands of nights, we provide shelter and housing. On school days, we provide high quality early education to more than 100 children.
YWCA Central Alabama also enlists hundreds of volunteers and donors every year to support us with their time, talent and resources. Together, we fight against racism, uplift women, promote peace and restore dignity. We stand up, speak out and get out the vote. We strengthen families and improve our communities.
You have the power to empower others! Every contribution, no matter the amount, supports YWCA Central Alabama’s mission to eliminate racism and empower women. To make a tax-deductible donation right now, please complete and submit the form below.

Some people have a natural gift for encouraging others. Recognizing the needs of women and children in adverse circumstances, Maybelle Sloss helped establish YWCA Central Alabama in 1903 and became its first director. She worked fervently to build what would become a helping hand and a haven of hope for future generations.
Membership in the Maybelle Sloss Society is offered to those generous donors who make an estate gift through bequests in an estate will, establishment of a charitable trust or beneficiary designation of a life insurance policy or retirement plan. Life membership is permanent recognition of your belief in and contribution to the future.
Women and children in our community who face profound life challenges can turn to YWCA Central Alabama, which serves as a source of empowerment for so many of them.
- Cash is an easy gift to make and is tax-deductible.
- Appreciated securities that are transferred to YWCA Central Alabama can provide considerable tax advantages and avoid capital gains tax due upon sale.
- Real estate allows for the preservation of cash assets and provides tax benefits enabling a larger charitable gift than anticipated.
Bequests allow you to name YWCA Central Alabama in your will or living trust. The gift may be for a specific dollar amount or a percentage of the total estate or the remaining assets of your estate after expenses and specific requests have been paid.

Life Insurance gifts allow you to make a large gift with little expenditure by naming YWCA Central Alabama as the beneficiary of your policy. This also will allow your estate to avoid estate taxes when proceeds are paid to YWCA Central Alabama.
Naming YWCA Central Alabama as a beneficiary of your IRA or other Retirement Plan will allow you to avoid income and estate taxes when retirement plan assets pass directly to YWCA Central Alabama.
IRA Required Minimum Distribution (RMD): If you are 70 1/2 or older, you can transfer up to $100,000 annually ($200,000 for couples) and reduce the taxable balance of the IRA in your estate. Gifts made from an IRA are not reportable as taxable income and qualify toward your RMD, which can lower your income and taxes.
Charitable Lead Trusts pay trust income annually to YWCA Central Alabama for a period of years determined by you, after which the gift reverts back to either you or your heirs. The amount gifted to the YW can be either a percentage or a fixed amount.
These trusts pay fixed income amounts to donors — or another beneficiary of your choosing — for life or a specific term up to 20 years, after which remaining assets will be distributed to YWCA Central Alabama. Benefits to you include: fixed annual income, partial income tax deductions, possible estate savings, and no capital gains tax paid when transfer of assets into the trust occurs.
Stock gifts are a great way to invest in YWCA Central Alabama while also accessing substantial tax benefits.
Charitable gift annuities (CGA), a life income gift, are win-win investment options for donors. By establishing a CGA, you will be able to make a sizable gift to YWCA Central Alabama using cash, securities or possibly other assets. In return, you become eligible to take a partial tax deduction for your donation, plus you receive a fixed stream of income from the charity for the rest of your life.
