On Thursday, August 11, with an Alabama summer thunderstorm rolling in, we kicked off our 15th annual KIDS Korner event, presented by PNC. In the ballroom overlooking Regions Field, guests enjoyed an evening of connecting over games like giant Jenga and cornhole, capturing laughs at the 360 photo booth, perusing the dazzling pieces on display and getting their chance-to-win Ring Bling tickets from Avani Rupa Fine Jewelers, snacked on tasty nibbles and sipped on Chi-Chi cocktails courtesy of Redmont Vodka and Queen’s Park. Also present was local artist Rachel Relaford who live painted a diptych piece to be given to the highest donor of the evening.
Gray skies broke way to sunshine and a rainbow tucked up high, and attendees settled in to hear about YWCA’s Child Development Center and the impact the program makes on the families they serve. Shay Oden, a CDC parent, was honored during the program and shared a few words before everyone turned their attention to a video about how the CDC has changed the lives of her and her children.
We are thrilled to report that more than $100,000 was raised to help support YWCA’s Child Development Center!
The program wrapped up by drawing for the Avani Rupa Ring Bling winner and presenting the largest contributor of the night with the custom diptych painting, which was paid forward to our CDC honoree, Shay Oden. Everyone watched a spectacular fireworks show as we closed out the 15th annual KIDS Korner with a bang.
YWCA Central Alabama is thankful to everyone who celebrated with us and donated to the event. Our Child Development Center served 87 children in 2021. Of these children, 85% came from families who earn an extremely low income (less than $16,100/individual or $26,500/family of four). Your contribution helps us continue providing Central Alabama children with a high-quality educational experience in a safe, loving environment and give them the very best start in life.
